Yacht + Lambo = Yambo/Lacht

It's quite a common practice for automotive designers to venture into different fields of design, part of the lure being to gain reputation and experience. After all, automotive design is but a branch of industrial design, a field which governs what modern-day products, from your boring, insignificant stapler, to fast and furious supercars, will look like, and how humans will interact with and use them.

Designing luxury yachts seems to be on top of the list of favourite things to do, apparently...

BMW has done it; Porsche Design has one in their records; Pininfarina's done a dozen (*Pininfarina is an automotive design firm, responsible for the design of the whole current Ferrari lineup)...

And now Lamborghini will be cruising to a marina near you, with the creation of a Lamborghini-inspired yacht, designed by Italian Mauro Lecchi. One thing worth pointing out is that the Lambo yacht is sort of a reversed process. Instead of an automotive design firm penning their vision of a luxury yacht, Mauro, who is not an automotive designer by practice, has taken inspiration from Lamborghinis of old and new, and embedded it into his yacht design.

I guess the Yambo does have cues from a Gallardo somewhere along the lines... Cruising in the waters of Monaco suddenly seems to look like a much more enthralling pastime than before...

Come to think of it, the Lamborghini Reventon takes its design cues from the aviation realm. Human transportation is more interrelated than we thought... at least for Lamborghini;

Because the will of man conquers land, sea, and air;
