Dubai Motor Show Experience

I would have given many things to be in my brother's shoes, including my pants. He went to Dubai, while I went to Tronoh. He attended the Dubai Motor Show, in Dubai, while I went hungry in the middle of the night at Tronoh.

No, no, I'm not complaining about Tronoh. I had a good time there. I would not have given up the opportunity to visit the Petronas campus and attend the interview for anything. but, to give up a chance to attend a motor show in Dubai is , to me, feels a little bit like being hit hard in the head; pain, anger sadness, and confusion.

Anyways, before he went to Dubai, I bestowed a mission upon my brother. I asked him to create an opportunity to go to the Motor Show; maybe skip a few things on the tour schedule, and if he gets the green light to attend the Motor Show, I asked him to snap as many pics as possible of what he deemed worthy and significant.

Everything at the Dubai Motor Show is worthy and significant.

My brother attended the Motor Show, and brought to me live pics from the Motor Show. It was awesome. God bless my brother for his efforts.
What I can say my brother saw at the Dubai Motor Show is a representation of the international automotive scene. There was almost every new car recently launched at the show. A few examples would be the Mercedes SLS AMG, the Aston Martin Rapide, the Ford Mustang GT, the Audi TT RS, BMW 5-GT, and many more. There was even a unique display of not 1, but 3 special editions of the Bugatti Veyron for viewing pleasure.

My brother is a lucky man. He had viewed a collection of the world's latest and greatest cars; sports cars and GTs of the highest degree. God knows when the SLS, or Rapide, or whatever, will reach Malaysian shores.

Right above is just a few of the moments that my brother captured during the Dubai Motor Show; enjoy. Thank him for the shots, but don't punish him for the picture quality...

Wednesday, 23rd December 2009; A Journey

night journey...

23rd December 2009; I spent a whole day on the highway. The family was traveling from KL back to Alor Setar. I always enjoy long drives on the highway. I can't explain it. There's a thrill inside of me, a thrill that comes with the journey.

We started from Cyberjaya in the afternoon, and only reached Alor Setar by nearly eleven at night. It was a long trip, its been a satisfying week. The family was back from Dubai, and I was back from Petronas, Perak. Now, we're all together in the car, cruising along the highway. It was fun. It was one of the best days I ever had.

We stopped at Taiping, got some rest, and ate my aunt's birthday cake. She turned 55, on the same day I turned 17. It was good chocolate cake.

Running along the highway from Taiping, I looked up. I saw the darkest sky, lit up by the most magnificent display of stars; the most amount of stars I had ever seen on a single night. I cannot remember observing such a stunning starry night before.

The view of the night sky in the middle of the highway is above all else.

It made me wonder in awe how insignificant the Earth is, and how meaningless the existence of man is on this insignificant Earth.

And yet, man is blessed with breathtaking star-lit skys, lush greeneries, and everything he could ever need on this Earth. Man is given the power to choose what is best for him by God.

The starry night also reminded me of another thing; my grandfather's deep words which he said to me at noon, when we were just leaving KL...

Michael Schumacher Back in F1, Racing with Mercedes GP Petronas 2010

You cannot seperate a man from his true callling. The legend, Michael Schumacher, after retiring to F1 in 2006, must have gotten bored of being Ferrari's road car advisor. Perhaps he finds his achievement as Ferrari's single greatest walking advertisement as 'not enough'. No, this man is not ready to retire just yet. He lives in the fast lane. He needs a new challenge. And what better way to achieve immortality than to return back to F1 glory, piloting a Mercedes F1 machine next year. I reckon he can achieve great things in his second venture into Formula 1. Driving a Mercedes racer, there should be a more nationalistic spirit burning in his heart, since all thats important is Germany next year, compared back then when he was with Ferrari, driving a 'foreign' car. Perhaps he can fork out 3 more world titles? Who knows. There's much doubt, but hey, hoping for the best is more exciting than looking at the down side.

The best part is, Mercedes will have Petronas as its title sponsor starting 2010, giving the right to the official team name 'Mercedes GP Petronas'. Petronas, and Malaysia, will ride along Mercedes and Schumacher in the waves of glory and publicity next season. Pretty exciting stuff.

The Axiom wishes our 2 favourite Formula 1 teams, Lotus F1 Racing and Mercedes F1 GP the best of achievements in the years to come.

One Night at UTP

1. I came back yesterday from UTP's EDUCAMP interview programme, December edition.

2. I'll be honest. This 2-day EDUCAMP thing demands hard work.

3. The schedule is jam-packed along the way, seeing the morning of the first day entirely filled with talks from various Petronas Education Division and UTP personnel.

4. After 5 hours of talk, we were all given merely 45 mins to rest and eat, before English, Math and Science tests commence, which lasted around 3 hours.

5. For the English test, 50 multiple-choice questions were given. For the M&Sc test, 30 multiple-choice questions were given. All are of SPM standard.

6. After these tests, we got a few hours of valuable rest. Then, another motivational talk from a 27- year old UTP alumni who is currently generating a five figure salary from the oil&gas industry was arranged for us.

7. We went back to our rooms at nearly 11 that night. We relaxed, talked a bit about next day's interview, until we got bored and hungry. Fuzai decided to go out for food, and we followed.

8. UTP at midnight is such a peaceful place. Unfortunately, not one cafe` or canteen were open at this hour. We were too late. Giving up on the search for food, we took a stroll towards UTP's an-Nur mosque, which is lit up at night. You can't miss it. It's a very modern mosque, surrounded by a lake. We helped ourselves to a tour. We also played with the masjid's doors:) You need to press a button to open the doors, something like opening the doors of a LRT or monorail. Very cool.
We slept reasonably late that night.

9. Next day was the core business of the programme; the interview. Myself and Fuzai were placed in Group E of the 5-group interview that day. Group E started at 2p.m, and finished interview at 5.30p.m. The interview ran smoothly for me. Alhamdulillah. I was in a group of four, and we had to discuss our given topic in front of two UTP lecturers, in a business meeting kind of style. My colleagues were two 20-something-year olds from Johor & N9, and a 17-year old Chinese girl, also from Johor.

10.The end of our interview marked the end of our 2-day EDUCAMP experience.

11. Much effort and hard work was required for this EDUCAMP, but at the end it is a very rewarding and self-enriching experince. You gain more than what you lose. Yes, it's a very busy 2 days for me, but I thrived in the rush of it all. Honestly, you can learn a lot from EDUCAMP.

12. I went back with my father. He said, "Nampak letih ja. Tak tidok ka?"
"Tak tidok sangat," I replied. "Keras."

" Ha? Keras? Ada...nampak..."

" Dak, dak. Bukan. Bantal keras:)"

13. That ends my EDUCAMP experience. How was yours? Chancellor Hall Masjid an-Nur...

Trulli, Kovalainen Piloting Lotus Machine Next Year

We have a team, we have a car, and now, we finally have drivers! Today, our wise PM, Mr. Najib, announced the people who would be racing in our Lotus F1 Racing Machine in next year's Formula 1 season. Main pilot would be Jarno Trulli, former Toyota F1 main man, and Heikki Kovalainen, former McLaren Mercedes driver will be his co-racing buddy. In the test department, we have our own favourite rookie, Fairuz Fauzy, as Lotus F1 Racing's third and test driver. Team principal Tony Fernandes said that the chosen drivers for our national F1 team, is a complete package, combining valuable experience (represented by Trulli), youthful ambition (represented by Kovalainen), and national pride (Fairuz Fauzy, of course).

The new Lotus F1 Racing Logo was also unvieled today. I think the new logo signifies past and future glory, as the dark green and yellow colour of Lotus is proudly worn by the logo. Its nice. I like it very much.

From my point of view, Malaysians would have no problem whatsoever in embracing our very on F1 team in next year's season. Although its hard to let go of Ferrari or Brawn or whatever, we must all agree that we now have a form of pride and a sense of achievement, in the form of a Lotus F1 racer, racing around tracks all over the world next year.

We can win this thing. We have it in us. Especially with talented drivers combined with a proper racing machine, Lotus F1 Racing, and Malaysia's chances of obtaining F1 success are high.

So let's all support Lotus F1 Racing next year, no matter what we think of Mr. Najib's idea to form a national Formula 1 team. This is what 1Malaysia is all about.

Benz Over Brawn; Mercedes Buys Brawn GP Stake

No more Brawn GP! The name is gone. Daimler AG has bought a 75% stake in the world-champion team, and Brawn GP is renamed Mercedes Grand Prix. Ross Brawn is still the team mastermind.
Copy from autoblog;

Brawn Grand Prix officially announced this morning that Daimler AG and Aabar Investments PJSC has bought a 75-percent stake in the team that won the world championship in its first year of existence. The team run by ex-Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn was born just under a year ago out of the ashes of the former Honda F1 team after that automaker pulled out of the sport. With Brawn taking over the reigns, the team secured a supply of engines from Mercedes and went on to win numerous races in 2009 along with both the constructors and drivers world championship for driver Jenson Button.

Rumors of Mercedes expanding its involvement with the Brawn team have been ongoing throughout most of the season. The Stuttgart automaker has been gradually pulling away from the McLaren team following the scandals of recent years and end of the SLR road car program. The McLaren Group will buy back the 40-percent stake in itself that Daimler currently holds by the end of 2011. The deal leaves the door open for Mercedes to continue supplying engines to McLaren through 2015. However, there has been speculation about McLaren attempting to buy the former BMW F1 engine shop to build its own powerplants.

The Brawn team will now be known as Mercedes Grand Prix and Ross Brawn will continue as the team principal. Thanks to Peter and Oliver for the tips!

MERCEDES GRAND PRIX ANNOUNCEMENT

Mercedes-Benz will enter the Formula 1 World Championship with its own team, beginning with the 2010 season, and Daimler AG and McLaren Group will change their form of cooperation with effect as of 13 November 2009. This was announced by Daimler AG today.

Daimler AG together with Aabar Investments PJSC will take over 75.1 per cent of the Brawn GP team, with Daimler taking 45.1 per cent and Aabar 30 per cent. The rest of the 24.9 per cent will remain with the current stakeholders. With 9.1 per cent, Aabar is the biggest single shareholder of Daimler AG. This transaction is subject to the approval of the EU and the Swiss cartel authorities.

The background to this decision are the new terms and conditions for Formula 1. The "Resource Restrictions" set by FOTA and FIA effectively limit expenditure for the design, construction and running of the racing cars. In addition, there will be a significantly higher income available for a Formula 1 team generated by the commercial rights of the racing series following the signing of the new Concorde Agreement.

The partnership between McLaren Mercedes has been in place since 1995 and endedits 15th joint Formula 1 season in 2009. The change to the form of cooperation is taking place by mutual agreement. Mercedes-Benz and McLaren will continue to co-operate with each other and the supply of engines could continue until 2015.

The McLaren Group have set themselves new targets, especially in the automotive sector, and Daimler understands and respects these new strategic objectives. For this reason, it has been agreed that the buy-back by the McLaren Group of the 40 per cent McLaren share owned by Daimler AG will be completed by 2011.

By taking this decision, Mercedes-Benz resumes its marvellous motor racing history on the 75th anniversary of the Silver Arrows, the world's most unique racing cars. Mercedes wants to continue the tradition in the style of these flawless Silver Arrows, which put their stamp on each era by winning the majority of the races they competed in.

"Mercedes-Benz is the most valued and best-known premium automotive brand in the world. This brand looks for competition of the utmost quality in all relevant fields in order to continually improve its performance in the face of such new challenges", explains Dr. Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

"Due to the new Formula 1 environment, we will face the competition in future on the most important motor sports stage with our own Silver Arrow works team.

"Our new Silver Arrow Formula 1 team is a great sporting and technical challenge and we will tackle this with sporting spirit and full of enthusiasm."

Mercedes-Benz will restructure their Formula 1 programme and work hard to achieve further savings, going beyond the already completed steps for significant cost reductions and improved efficiency.

Since 1995, the beginning of the partnership, McLaren and Mercedes-Benz have competed in 256 Grand Prix events and have achieved 60 victories. In 1998, 1999 and 2008, the British-German team won the drivers' World Championships, as well as the World Constructors' Championship in 1998. The McLaren Mercedes team became runner-up in the World Championships ten times, with five times in the drivers' and constructors' rankings respectively.

After winning the drivers' title with Lewis Hamilton last year, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes finished third in the World Constructors' Championships this year. The 2008 World Champion won two races with his current car, the MP4-24, achieving a first historic victory with the brake energy-recovery system, KERS Hybrid. No other driver scored more points in the last eight races from the season's total of 17 races than Lewis Hamilton.

"I want to thank McLaren for a successful collaboration over the last decade and a half", says Dr. Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. "For the benefit of both Mercedes and McLaren, we will continue our partnership cooperation in future. We will be rivals on-track but, off-track, we will cooperate with McLaren and the other teams in order to create the best possible product for spectators worldwide."

"We look back on 15 successful years of great collaboration with McLaren; in that time, we won four world-championship titles and finished ten times as runner-up in the drivers' and constructors' rankings," states Norbert Haug, Vice-President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport. "Since the first victory in the 1997 Australian Grand Prix, the modern Silver Arrows have achieved a total of 60 victories in 223 races to ensure that our brand symbol, the star, stands for the greatest successes in Formula 1. We thank our partner and will continue to work with McLaren based on an excellent partnership."

Mercedes Grand Prix, the management team of the former Brawn GP team, will continue to work under the leadership of Ross Brawn, who will continue in his well-known role. The Formula 1 team, as well as the engine team of Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines, will be co-ordinated by Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, headed by their Vice-President, Norbert Haug.

"Brawn GP has been through an incredible journey over the last 12 months. From fighting for our survival to forging a strong relationship with Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines, winning both the Constructors and Drivers World Championships, and now accepting Daimler and Aabars offer to buy our team, which will secure its future", Team Principal Ross Brawn looks back on a difficult beginning of the year which eventually turned into an extremely successful season.

"Both I and my fellow Directors at Brawn GP are incredibly proud of our staff, drivers and everyone associated with our team and thank them for their commitment, outstanding teamwork and their focus on achieving results in sometimes difficult circumstances. The senior management group will remain in place to lead our team and on behalf of everyone at Brawn GP, we are honoured to be representing such a prestigious brand as Mercedes-Benz in Formula One next year and will be working together to do our best to reward their faith in our team."

The new Silver Arrow team, Mercedes Grand Prix, will compete in Formula 1 as a works team in its own right. Synergies between the 100 per cent Daimler-owned subsidiary Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines in Brixworth, UK, and the Mercedes Grand Prix team based about 28 miles from there in Brackley in the UK, will create even greater efficiency.

It is our target to develop a model for our Formula 1 activities which will initially be run with significantly reduced budgets by Mercedes-Benz and which, in the foreseeable future, will be self-financing", comments Norbert Haug. "Furthermore, we naturally want to inspire our faithful spectators and TV viewers worldwide and maximize media coverage for our brand. With Formula 1, Mercedes-Benz can continue to clearly demonstrate its willingness to compete and win on the most important motor sports competition stage in the world."

Khadem Al Qubaisi, Chairman, Aabar Investment PJSC comments: "Aabar is delighted to join forces with Daimler AG and its world leading brand Mercedes-Benz in order to create a new Formula One Team which follows in the footsteps of the longstanding and successful tradition of the famous 'Silver Arrows'.

"Ever since Aabar became the largest shareholder in Daimler AG, the cooperation between our two organisations has been exemplary, and we have already co-invested in Tesla. Aabar is confident that further successes will follow in this arena.

"Bearing in mind the recent outstanding success of the Abu Dhabi GP, which brought Formula One to the United Arab Emirates for the first time, it is especially exciting to realise that next year, our own cars will be in the field, with the genius of Ross Brawn, who is still deeply involved with the team, now backed by the unrivalled excellence of Mercedes-Benz across the entire spectrum of automotive technology. It is a fantastic prospect, which makes me both pleased and proud for my country."

Rate of Change of Momentum

1. Newton's 2nd law states that the rate of change of momentum is directly proportional to the resultant force, and in the same direction as the force.

2. Newton is a smart guy, so his sentences and laws are always in proper English. But, for the rest of us, what the hell is he trying to say? Let's brake it down into pieces.

3. First, lets understand momentum. Momentum is the mass of something times its velocity. In reality, we're just trying to explain movement. A car and a lorry are moving at the same speed on the highway. So, which one is, well, boleh bergerak dengan lebih mudah?Apabila sesuatu benda lebih berat, benda itu akan lebih susah untuk berhenti apabila ia dalam keadaan bergerak. Back to the car and the lorry, which one has more momentum? Because the lorry is heavier than the car, and their velocity is the same, the lorry will have more momentum. It will be more difficult to make the lorry stop compared to the car, even if they are moving at the same speeds. Get the idea?

4. So, Newton suggested that, the rate of change of momentum, i.e, how much the momentum increases or decreases per given time, is directly proportional to the resultant force, i.e, the final force, or the end force.

5. Basic idea here is, if the rate of change of momentum is high, you will get more force.

6. If the rate of change of momentum is low, you will get less force. They are directly proportional.

7. So, if you want a large amount of force, you must increase the rate of change of momentum. If you want little force, you must lower the rate of change of momentum.

8. Rate of change of momentum increases if there is a large increase or decrease of momentum in a given time. Also, if you decrease the time while keeping the momentum constant, the rate of change of momentum also increases.

9. In situation A, there is a momentum of 10 kg m s-1 per 10 seconds. In situation B, there is a momentum of 10 kg m s-1 per 5 seconds. So, the rate of change of momentum in B is higher than in A.

10. This is what impulsive force is all about.

Contoh Essay

A friend, Syawal, requested a model essay to help improve his English essay for SPM. So, I wrote this for his referrence. I'll share it here. It's a simple story beginning with ' My heart was beating very fast when I...'.

My heart was beating very fast when I turned the steering wheel hard around the last corner. My right foot now pressed like a cold hard brick on the accelerator, I could not care less even if the whole world was behind me. In front of me was my life, my dreams, and everything that I had worked, endured, and trained for since I was a little boy; the chequered flag. With the BMW M3 supercar that I am piloting blasting towards the finish line at 250 kilometers per hour, nothing can stop me now. This is my moment; my destiny.

The moments of approaching victory conjured up the image of my father in my mind. I was very close with my father. We were the best of friends.

***

My father’s life revolved around motorsports. He was born a gifted racer. Nobody taught him proper driving techniques, but he learned from his own experience. The driving genius in him was discovered back in college, when he entered the annual inter-university go-kart competition as an inexperienced rookie. He raced around the college track, guided by pure instinct, in a tuned Ford Capri that he borrowed from his senior. Against all odds, he stormed through the competition to take first place after 50 laps. Pictures of him holding the championship trophy while raising his hand high up like a triumphant superhero were scattered across the following day’s newspapers. Everybody became a fan of ‘Super Steve’. My dad became instantly famous.

To this day, I still keep that newspaper cutting. The memory of my father’s shining moment was the best way I could remember him.

Tragic was the day of the final race in 1992, when I was only three years old. Dad was racing for Team Lotus in the Ultimate Championship Series, the pinnacle of auto racing. He was the leader in the overall standings, 23 points above his closest rival. This final race in the Nurburgring race track, Germany, will end the year’s season and produce a new world champion. The media dubbed my dad ‘the king of motorsports’, predicting him the winner of the Germany race. Victory, it seemed, was assured for him. Fate, on the other hand, was cruel. He was leading the race, when suddenly, the Lotus racer lost control, and crashed hard unto the wall at the fourth corner. Thick smoke came out of the exhaust, and the car rapidly caught fire. Nobody expected this. I was sitting at the grandstand with family and friends, watching the horror. He was three more laps to ultimate victory. Dad was trapped in the cockpit.

Steven Capri died a racing legend, and a great father.

Mum never dared to let me near a go-kart. Scared of losing her only son, she did everything in her power to hold me back from racing. Because of mum, a racing career was never to be for me, so it seemed. I understood her decision full well. After dad’s tragic death, mum kept herself and me as far away from the racing world as possible. She would not even take me to a race. “You’ll do just fine watching the race from television. It doesn’t make much difference. Besides, the engine roars will damage your ears when you get older.” Mum used to tell me that all the time.

Mum made me miss a big part of my dad’s life. By taking away the joy of racing from me, she is driving me away from dad. I don’t blame her for being overprotective, but I miss my dad so much. The racetrack reminded me of my father. I am not going to erase the legend of my father from my life by stepping away from racing.

Despite my mother’s concerns, I joined the racing club while in college. It has been fifteen years since I drove in a go-kart. Miraculously, training was a breeze for me. Instinct told me how to drive like a professional around the go-kart track. I have racing blood flowing through me. My dad was watching over me, guiding me through the steering wheel. The racing club was too generous in sponsoring me as the college’s leading driver. From here, my racing career started. I had won many of the go-kart tournaments that I entered since then. I was proud of bringing victory to my college.

Eventually, my mum approved of my racing career. There was no way she could stop me from being like my dad. It became an honour for her that I continued in the footsteps of my father by getting into motorsports. She saw me as a living memory of my father.

***

Present reality got back into me. The moment is now. Right ahead was the wavering chequered flag. I knew that my mum was watching me from the grandstand. I hope she is not in tears. I immersed myself in the current situation. The car, the crowd, the roaring engine, and sweat hanging from the tip of my nose; I took everything in. There was a moment of silence in my mind.

I saw a glimpse of the digital leader boards; big letters spelling ‘OVERALL M3 SERIES CHAMPION – JOHN CAPRI’. Victory was destined.

*Syawal, aku harap hng boleh apply contoh sebegini utk SPM. Yang penting, hng jgn teragak-agak utk berpandangan jauh dan kreatif dlm essay SPM. Baca contoh2 essay utk mantapkan grammar. Kalau ada apa2 yg hendak ditanya, aku sentiasa kat 5 Omega. Good luck.*

The Aston Martin Rapide; British Refinement

From Autoblog; Aston Martin has released official pics of their new Rapide four dour sports sedan. Is the world ready for a four-door Aston Martin? If you got the money, and the guts to buy an Aston in this period of economic mud and filth where the common man struggles to buy bread and underwear, then you're ready for anything. Seriously though, I really think you can live with this thing. Its an Aston that will make your grandparents proud, because they can ride along at the back. The Rapide has unique doors that open at an angle slightly upwards, which looks brilliant, though ease of use, I think, is not guaranteed; just my thought.
